Commonly used tool setting methods for vertical cnc milling


To put it simply, the tool setting methods commonly used in drilling and tapping centers and heavy duty machining centers include tool setting tools, active tool setting and trial cutting.


Since the complete machining process of a workpiece may involve several or even dozens of tools, the trial cutting method is relatively primitive and the tool setting accuracy is poor, so it is rarely used. Let's focus on the first two more typical knife setting methods:


1. Active tool setting method: Active tool setting is completed by using the tool detection function of heavy duty machining center equipment. This equipment can actively and accurately measure the length of each tool in each coordinate direction, and can actively correct the tool error value. The entire inspection and correction process can be completed on the basis of the normal operation of the machine tool. This kind of tool setting method completely relies on the electronic control equipment to complete, eliminating the man-made tool setting error, so the tool setting accuracy is higher, and the tool setting power is also better.


2. Tool setting method with tool setting instrument: Choose tool setting instrument for tool setting, which is more economical and is the primary method of tool setting in heavy duty machining center now. There are two types of tool setting: internal tool setting instrument and external tool setting instrument. The tool setting of the external tool setting instrument needs to be calibrated outside the machine tool in advance, and then the tool can be used after mounting the tool on the machine tool; .
