Don't rush to use SolidWorks after installation, the nine major settings will steadily improve drawing efficiency

The method of adding a path is also quite simple, select the type of folder to add, add it on the right, and specify the path folder. It should be noted that it is best to manage the folders in a unified manner. Do not put them under the path of the C drive to avoid accidental deletion after reinstalling the system.
Of course, there are many path settings here. You need to define the path you want to use according to your work needs. There are two main types of folder settings, template folder and design library folder. Here I introduce some commonly used paths.
template folder
The template folder, as the name implies, is a folder for storing various templates, mainly as follows
1. File template

Needless to say, the file template is the most important. You should put your part template, assembly template, engineering drawing template A4, A3 here, basically 70% of the default settings will be saved in your template, which means Is the basis of your design environment. After setting the path and storing the template file in the corresponding folder, you will see the template you saved in the newly created window.

2. Bill of materials template

The company's bill of materials will prepare and save the template according to the company's standards. Our previous article introduced how to make a bill of materials template. When creating a new bill of materials, select the template to quickly generate it.

3. Custom properties file

This property file is a good thing. We know that when designing parts and assemblies, we need to define file properties to specify the necessary information for parts or assemblies, such as drawing numbers, names, etc., and every time we need to open the file properties It is relatively cumbersome to input in the dialog box, so this custom attribute file will directly display the attributes to be entered in the work pane, and you can also define the drop-down menu selection, making attribute definition more convenient and quick.

4. Drawing format

The drawing format is an appendage of making a drawing template. You can manually save one when the drawing is finished. In fact, it is to save a drawing frame, so that if your drawing frame is not suitable, you can use the drawing format to replace it.

Design library folder
The design library folder is mainly used to store the files commonly used in design
5. Material database

The material database is mainly to store material information. When designing parts, we call the required materials. In addition to the default SW material library, we can customize the material to store the company's commonly used materials, so that we don't have to use so many materials when calling To find.

6. Design library

The design library is a large content, which can contain a lot of content, such as sketch library, feature library, standard parts library, general parts library, purchased parts library, annotation library, molding tool library, etc. In fact, they are different folders, unified Under a large design library folder, classification management is carried out through resource management.
The degree of perfection of the design library determines your design efficiency, and the degree of standardization of the design library determines the depth of your design.

7. CircuitWorks plug-in

The CircuitWorks application is an add-in for SOLIDWORKS Premium software and SOLIDWORKS Professional developed by Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS Corporation. With CircuitWorks, you can create 3D models using the file formats written by most electrical computer-aided design (ECAD) systems. Electrical and mechanical engineers can collaborate to design printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are suitable for use in SOLIDWORKS assemblies.
To put it bluntly, it is a small tool for collaborative connection in the middle, the upper end is connected to the hardware engineer, and the lower end is connected to the structural engineer. After the PCB file drawn by the hardware engineer is converted into a common format, it can be passed to the structural engineer. After the structural engineer imports the PCB file through the plug-in called CircuitWorks, after a series of self-calling of the background components, a final output is generated. version of a realistic circuit board model.

8. Standard product model library

There is no special definition in the standard product model library SW, and different industries have different needs, and you can also classify it in the design library. For example, there is a folder dedicated to a series of standard product models. All projects are modified based on these product models, which can greatly improve design efficiency. After all, 80% of our work is in modification.
9. Others

Of course, there are some special libraries such as thread contours, weldment contours, sheet metal coefficient tables, etc. The folders are set according to the needs of your work.

The above are the necessary basic data for 3D design. Engineers who are familiar with the product can make some arrangements for these folders based on previous experience, and then continuously improve these folders in the process of 3D design projects. Specialized personnel can be assigned to continuously update and organize these data, and then everyone can share these data. Special attention should also be paid to the fact that the sorted data must be unified, standardized, and streamlined, and standardized design can also be gradually realized while sorting, thereby greatly improving work efficiency.
