Mold Design Management Procedures

1. Purpose

To establish a standard operating procedure for plastic mold design, ensuring design quality and adherence to schedules in order to meet customer requirements.

2. Scope

Applicable to plastic mold design, as well as the review and improvement of mold design proposals.

3. Definitions

None

4. Reference Documents

1. Customer product requirement specifications

2. Product drawings

3. Mold drawings

5. Responsibilities

Mold designers are responsible for designing the mold based on the product design data and 3D models provided by the Project Manager (PM).

6. Workflow

None

7. Detailed Procedures:

7.1 Upon receiving the 3D model and "Mold Instruction Sheet" from the R&D Department, the Design Supervisor of the Plastic Mold Department organizes a design review with relevant designers. They determine the design strategy, assign personnel to the task, and record the details in the "Mold Fabrication Schedule."

7.2 3D Design Tasks

7.2.1 Pre-design processing of the product and completion of the "3D Parting/Mold Design Review Report":

a Check product draft angles;

b Handle chamfers/fillets;

c Analyze product wall thickness;

d Account for material shrinkage;

e Determine parting lines;

f Determine gate locations;

g Prepare a report on product issues;

7.2.2 Determine mold structure, mold base model, and parting surface; determine dimensions for mold cores and inserts; select standard components and materials (ensuring all materials are RoHS compliant); and complete the "Mold Material List" for procurement. 7.2.3 Organize designers to conduct a mold parting review and create 3D part models for machining;

7.2.4 File format conversion and saving

7.3 2D design tasks

7.3.1 Design of the mold ejection system

7.3.2 Design of the mold cooling system

7.3.3 Preparation of mold machining drawings

a Mold assembly drawing (exploded view, Bill of Materials/BOM);

b Mold core machining drawings;

c Mold plate machining drawings;

d Machining blueprints for sliders, lifters, and all inserts;

e Product engineering drawings.

7.4 Design output tasks

7.4.1 Upon completion of the self-check, submit mold drawings to the relevant person in charge for review and fill out the "Mold Material Itemized List" to order materials.

7.4.2 Submit mold drawings to the Mold Design Supervisor for final approval and generation of official machining drawings.

7.4.3 Transfer approved 3D files to the public server for access by relevant personnel. Print product and mold drawings; after review by relevant personnel, issue them under controlled procedures to the mold workshop as the basis for fabrication.
