Why is it so difficult to process titanium alloys?

Titanium alloys have been widely used so far, but cutting processing is by no means easy. Often choosing milling cutters for processing titanium alloys is also a problem. The sticky cutters are not hard enough to break easily. It is a common public problem. On the one hand, the requirements of human beings’ living standards are increasing, and the requirements for scientific and technological products are also increasing. On the other hand, there are also individual requirements. More, so the non-standard solid milling cutter required for processing titanium alloys will also increase.

Why is it so difficult to process titanium alloys? Our company introduces the following four processing characteristics:

1. Gas impurities (oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, etc.) are chemically active and easy to hybridize with gas;

2. Titanium alloy has low plasticity and is easy to deform during cutting;

3. Severe work hardening will occur when titanium alloy is processed;

4. Tungsten carbide is easy to form during the machining process to reduce the cutting performance.

From the above, it is not difficult to see what requirements the processing titanium alloy has for the knife. The first of our company is the high hardness of the tool, the second is that the sharpness of the tool must be sharp so that it can deal with plastic deformation, and the third is the temperature control during processing. Therefore, processing titanium alloys should start from these places and choose suitable titanium alloy tungsten steel milling cutters. When facing special-shaped surface processing, you need to find a CNC solid milling cutter to customize a dedicated titanium alloy solid milling cutter.
