Turns Out This Is The Correct Way To Install The Vise

The vise should be the most widely used fixture in the world. High versatility, affordable price, and complete styles and sizes. For the tools that we often deal with, with the accumulation of experience, we will obviously speed up some necessary installation processes.

Let's watch this video first:

required tools

The work of installation and alignment needs to be prepared in advance, because in most workshops, these things usually appear in different positions.

For example, the brush used to clean up the chips may be where you can see it, but the anti-rust oil requires you to spend some time looking for it in the workshop...

So for work efficiency, you need to find everything in advance, and when you need it, you can easily get it, instead of wasting debugging time on finding tools.

When cleaning the machine tool, protective gloves are necessary. The chips in the machine tool are very sharp, and the coolant is easy to cause slippage. Without gloves, it is easy to cause safety accidents.

After the tools have been prepared and the workbench of the machine tool has been cleaned up, we will start today's highlight, straightening the vise.

If we are not very, very lucky, we may be crooked when we put the vise directly on the workbench of the machine tool, which requires us to adjust the position of the vise. Some vises need to be fixed by 2 bolts, and some need to be fixed by 4 pressure plates. Although the fixing methods are different, the principle of adjustment is basically the same.

First, slightly tighten the 2 bolts/plates on the left and right, then loosen one of them.

Then use the calibration meter to lean against the side where the bolt is locked first, and move the Y-axis with the hand wheel. After confirming that the ball head part of the calibration meter is in contact with the jaw of the vise, adjust the dial of the calibration meter so that the pointer of the calibration meter point to "0".

Then shake the handwheel to move the X-axis. During the movement, if you see that the reading is getting bigger and bigger, and it is likely to exceed the calibration stroke, you can use a rubber hammer to hit the vise near the handle while moving. , to adjust the position of the vise. If the reading is getting smaller, don't worry, you can make adjustments when you move to the other side of the jaws.

Repeat the above 2 steps until the calibration meter reads the same on both sides of the jaw.

Finally tighten all bolts/plates and take a final measurement to make sure the vise is still straight after tightening.
