What is Krato·tec™ coating?
Walter's latest Krato·tec™ coating is a new AlTiN multi-layer structure coating technology, specially designed for solid carbide cutting tools. This coating innovation has been patented.
Its core consists of an extremely fracture-resistant AlTiN multi-layer coating and a surface layer with a consistent texture. This special multi-layer structure still has high wear resistance and chip resistance even under high-speed cutting, making the tool more versatile.

Krato·tec™ coating technology will be used for the first time in drill bit products: X·treme Evo Plus – DC180 Supreme and X·treme Evo 3 – DC183 Supreme. After experimental verification, this coating technology has improved tool life by up to 50%! This is an impressive achievement that allows these drills to last longer and be more efficient in machining.

Walter DC180 drill bit
Walter DC180 Supreme drill bit is made of self-developed WJ30EZ material, which can achieve the ultimate cutting speed. At the same time, this drill bit can be used in ISO P, M, K, N, S and H material groups. Internally cooled drill bits can use emulsion cooling, oil cooling or micro-mist lubrication (MQL). Straight cutting edges ensure greater stability and process reliability.
Walter DC180 Supreme is available in a wide diameter range of 3 - 20mm. Standard product specifications, Walter DC180 Supreme (Zhiqiang) has two structural sizes: 3 × Dc (in compliance with DIN 6537 standard, short type) and 5 × Dc (in compliance with DIN 6537 standard, long type). With the Walter Xpress service, special diameters and step drills can be customized and delivered within a very short time (within three weeks).
This series is designed for high-volume production and heavy-duty cutting. Because its excellent tool life, high productivity and high wear resistance can meet the requirements of harsh working conditions, DC180 Supreme can reduce costs and is especially suitable for difficult machining conditions of ISO M and S materials, such as aerospace industry. It is also suitable for industries that require a large number of drilling applications, such as the automotive industry and construction machinery industry. Walter DC180 drill bit
Walter DC183 Supreme solid carbide drill with three cutting edges and innovative Krato·tec™ coating technology sets new standards for mass production of steel and cast iron workpieces, also for aluminum Alloy processing. Compared to the two-edged DC180 Supreme drill, the three-edged DC183 Supreme enables higher metal removal rates and ensures excellent hole roundness.

In addition, thanks to the novel chisel edge design ("convex" drill tip), DC183 Supreme also has good centering characteristics, resulting in high positioning accuracy. Polished chip flutes (from 8×D) ensure optimal chip evacuation when machining deep holes. The improved shank end of DC183 Supreme is suitable for micro-volume oil mist lubrication (MQL), thereby improving tool life and process reliability.
