In the machining industry, DMG MORI is known to everyone. As a world-renowned machine tool manufacturer, DMG MORI has always been an innovation leader in the industry. I believe that everyone already knows a lot about DMG MORI, such as the high precision, high efficiency, high stability, technical strength, and innovation capabilities of machine tools. But after visiting and studying factories in Germany, I realized that what I knew before was still superficial. After reading this article, maybe you will have a different opinion.
Fronton's "House of Innovation"
In January 2024, DMG MORI created a more than 10-day technical feast at the Fronten factory in Germany at the foot of the Alps - the Fronten Open House, where users from all over the world gathered. During the open day, DMG MORI China invited more than 80 users from China to visit the site, and metal processing magazines were also invited to participate.
When I first entered the Fronten factory, in the 4200m2 exhibition hall, 45 high-tech machine tools, more than 15 sets of automation solutions and technologies dedicated to multiple high-tech industries were unveiled on the same stage. Except at the world-renowned large-scale machine tool exhibitions, it is probably rare to see such a large scene of simultaneous processing demonstrations of so many high-end machine tools.
This open day event focuses on machining transformation (MX) and showcases innovation results from multiple perspectives such as process integration, automation, digital transformation (DX) and green transformation (GX). If our previous understanding of "Machining Transformation (MX)" was still at the conceptual level, in this event, we saw how the concept was implemented and saw the future of manufacturing.
01
process integration
Process integration is the integration of multiple processing technologies in one processing area to shorten cycle times and reduce the number of clamping times. At the exhibition hall, the DMU 210 FDS demonstrated how to complete the turning, milling, grinding, gear cutting and in-machine measurement processes of large gear parts with only one clamping.

The new product DMF 400|11 of the DMF series moving column milling machining center has made its world debut. As the largest specification in the series, the DMF 400|11 has a stroke of 4000mm × 1100mm × 1050mm. In order to ensure its accuracy and rigidity, this machining center chose a cast iron bed, upgraded to three linear guides in the X-axis direction, and equipped with a cooled ball screw, which is very suitable for processing large workpieces with high requirements. The optional partition wall can be quickly installed. The partition wall can be used to divide the processing area into two independent processing areas. Other workpieces can be clamped during processing to improve utilization. The FD rotary table in the modular system supports complex milling/turning composite processing, bringing more possibilities for process integration.

Green Transformation (GX)
Process integration, automation, and digital transformation (DX) provide the foundation for green transformation (GX). Measures such as upgrading machine tools and machine tool overhauls with automation solutions can save energy by more than 30%, creating new possibilities for achieving higher productivity and effective resource conservation.
When the above four pillars work together, the concept of machining transformation (MX) will be firmly implemented. It is not difficult to see that the primary goal of various advanced solutions under the Machining Transformation (MX) framework is to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the production process, thereby helping users maintain global competitiveness and long-term success.
