Causes of cutting vibration in machining center and its elimination


Cutting vibration can be regarded as a major processing problem for the daily operations of machining centers. For thin-walled parts, once the vibration is large, there will be intense vibration with an amplitude of more than tens of μm, usually accompanied by a lot of noise. Although this situation can also be processed, the processed surface will often leave obvious vibration scratches, which is not allowed for the finishing surface requirements of thin-walled parts.


The hazards of cutting vibration are far more than these. We know that if vibration occurs during machining, relative displacement between the tool and the workpiece will occur, which will cause vibration marks on the machined surface, which will inevitably seriously affect the surface quality and performance of the part; when cutting vibration occurs The time process system will continue to bear the action of dynamic alternating load, the tool is very easy to wear, the connection characteristics of the machining center are damaged, and even the cutting process cannot be continued in severe cases, and the service life of the machining center and the cutting tool will be affected in severe cases. In addition, high-decibel harsh noise will be generated in the vibration, which will damage the health of the operator.


To eliminate cutting vibration, we should find a way of thinking from the tool. First of all, we should follow the principle that the cutting force will be minimized, and ensure the sharpness of the cutting edge of the tool to reduce the cutting force. The sharpness of the cutting edge should be ensured regardless of whether the knife has no coating. In addition, suitable methods are adopted for different types of cutting. For example, a 90-degree entering angle tool should be used with a slender tool bar to cut a slender shaft part; a face milling cutter should use a sparse tooth unequal-distance milling cutter to reduce milling vibration; the smaller the blade edge angle, the more good. Finally, the static rigidity of the reinforcement tool should be considered, and solid carbide or heavy metal tool holders should be used.


It is often said in the processing workshop that the most efficient processing is stable processing. Eliminating cutting vibration is an indispensable step to ensure the qualified rate of orders and maintain the service life of equipment and tools.
